Values | WSIS

The “Connectivity for All” project promotes the values of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in the state of Campeche in Mexico by promoting digital inclusion and equitable access to Information Technologies through the installation of Public Digital Infrastructure in 300 localities where 92% of the population lives, guaranteeing internet access to communities that were disconnected, establishing better conditions to carry out their activities in schools, health centers and government services. This approach to inclusion and sustainable development directly reflects the WSIS objectives of building an inclusive information society oriented towards human development.

The government of Campeche, together with other government institutions, technology companies, higher education institutions and academic groups, in addition to providing connectivity, installed 13 digital libraries in the 13 municipalities so that the population of these localities have access and training in Information and Communication Technologies. A diploma course was given to senior engineering students to train leaders in community educational robotics who created robotics clubs in the digital libraries of their community, increasing the capabilities of these students and generating better employability.

With these libraries we guarantee equal access for girls, adolescents, young people and women to training, outreach and educational events.

Gender equality will ensure that boys and girls can acquire skills that give them opportunities to contribute to and benefit equally from meaningful formative experiences to modify their immediate historical and cultural context.

Informal education with a community approach plays an important role in determining children’s interest in subjects and knowledge related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

In particular, it is strategic to offer experiences of scientific dissemination with equal opportunities, to encourage girls’ vocations and preferences to motivate, firstly, their educational continuity towards higher secondary education and secondly, in their higher education and in the selection of a career that will allow them in the future access to a job with better remuneration rates than the jobs traditionally linked to women.
